Talk about the important things

Make a list of the important things you have done or achieved in your lifetime so far. You should include any qualifications from school and college as well as the jobs you have had in the past. Don’t forget to include your specific reasons for wanting to work with the company. Maybe you’ve worked with them before or you’re genuinely interested in what the company stands for. Change your privacy settings on social media

Depending on the type of job you’re applying for, a lot of employers now take the time to check out potential employees on social media. If you have a public Facebook profile or Twitter account full of drunk pictures of you at the weekend, you might want to alter your settings so they can’t be seen by just anybody. To make sure they don’t get found, delete them altogether or ask your friends to untag you from them. You should also avoid writing long rants, swearing or publicly gossiping about people online.

Visit places which may have job vacancies

While you can sit at home and apply to hundreds of jobs online, you should also visit some shops and businesses in your area which have vacancies. Wherever possible, ask to speak to the manager or owner and hand over your CV in person. This makes your application more personal since the employer has already met you. Always be friendly and professional, but don’t worry if some businesses won’t take a hard copy of your CV from you. Some of them will direct you to their website or ask you to email a digital copy for them to review later.

Yes, you might have a good friend who likes you a lot, but that doesn’t mean they have a way with words. Try to find people who will give you a glowing reference while also writing it in a professional manner. Give the details of people who you know will take the time to construct a great reference and help you to get the job you want.
